Antique Chikuzen 5-string Biwa $3200

This is a concert-grade professional Chikuzen-style Biwa from the early 20th Century. Woods are: pawlonia for the soundboard and mulberry for the body and neck.

All fittings and crescents are mother of pearl. The sawari is strong. This is an altogether powerful-sounding biwa. Entire instrument was fine-tuned, adjusted and checked by a biwa maker in Osaka, who pronounced it in perfect working order and this instrument has been played by Yoko Hiraoka for some years. As an old instrument, it has the usual and expected patina of wear and tear, although in this case, overall the Biwa is in superb working condition.

Included in the sale are: one Chikuzen bachi plectrum and a spare set of strings.
